We were at my in-law's house celebrating Christmas on Christmas Day. We were all sitting in the family room visiting when we hear a loud crash and the shattering of glass. We all jumped up, and all of us thought my LO was into something. BUT, LO was sitting with his big cousin on the other side of the family room playing with his new toy.
We all went to the source of the crash wondering what it could be, as everyone was in the family room. A picture frame had fallen off the wall and shattered into a bunch of pieces. The drywall was portruding out of the wall, which was very strange since the picture just fell and wasn't torn out of the wall.
My DH started picking up glass and found.....brace yourself....a BULLET! He picked it up, unsure of what it was at first. It was still hot. He went outside and found a hole in the side of the house that went through the house, through two walls, and hit the picture frame, knocking it off the wall. There was a bullet hole through the actual picture as well (duh.)
My DH looked out into the woods behind his mom's house, and he and my niece both claimed to see a man running into the woods with a large gun. We immediately called the police and they were there within about 7 minutes. After searching, they found out that the people who live behind my IL's has a homemade shooting range in his back yard. He was shooting his fricking gun and missed his target.
My IL's didn't press charges, however, the man still got a hefty fine because he was shooting a gun within a certain amount of feet of homes.
It was just very scary. Thank God we were all (especially the LO's) were all playing in the family room. The bullet went right through the wall of the room where the kids always play (their play room). ![]()
Re: I bet my Christmas takes the cake for "most eventful"
Oh trust me, my DH was absolutely pissed to say the least. So was my BIL. I was just the most mad because there were children in the house!
That's crazy! That guy is an idiot. Glad everyone is ok!
that is crazy.
i would have pressed charges no question - idiots like that don't deserve a break... they could have killed a child.
Glad everyone was ok.
I agree with pp that I wouldn't have hesitated pressing charges. And I'd probably have used the barrel of his gun as a crowbar to pull his head out of his ass for him too.
This!
OMG how scary! What an idiot! Glad everyone is okay! I would have pressed charges too. He clearly needed that lesson.
OMG I'm so glad everyone is okay. How scary!
Please tell me your ILs live in Jackson, because I can totally see someone here doing that...
That is crazy! Glad everyone is okay!
Holy crap!! Scary!!
I didn't know there was a law about shooting within range of homes. I should tell my mom to call the cops on her neighbors who shoot their guns. We think they killed our cats because our 2 healthy cats (who admittedly did go on their property) mysteriously disappeared right after they moved in

You definitely win!
That is crazy and scary.
Exactly this - press charges definately!! Make the cops impound the gun, etc. At least so you can sue for the damages to the house and the repairs that will be needed. That had to be one powerful rifle and/or very close to the house to go through that many walls! What an idiot!
