DS is getting ear tubes tomorrow. School me.

What should I expect as far as recovery? Reaction to anesthesia? Pain Afterwards?

  • Recovery should be pretty easy. Cullen had tubes put in on Tuesday and did great. He was super fussy coming out of anesthesia, which is to be expected. However, once he slept and ate, he was a different child. He was acting like his normal self by early afternoon. As for pain, I alternated Tylenol and Motrin for the rest of the day. However, he never really appeared to be in pain. Seriously, it's the easiest surgery ever.

  • The recovery from ear tubes was super easy.  No reaction to anesthesia that was out of the ordinary, almost no pain after.

The surgery took about 20minutes, we spent about 45min in recovery.  They do tend to be disoriented, cranky, crying, hysterical in recovery, be prepped for that.  It's just the meds wearing off and they are too little to understand what's going on.  Samantha had that after her tongue was clipped, Bryan had that after his ear tubes, and after his tonsils/more ear tubes.  It sucks, but it is normal and goes away pretty fast.

On the drive home, he was happy and noticing new noises.  Slept most of that day, quite a bit the next day, and was otherwise peachy & fine & finally STTN.  Good luck ;-)

This, exactly.  I think the ENT came out to get us about 5 minutes after we got to the waiting room.  The hardest part (for me!) was watching them put him to sleep (I had to hold him on my lap, keep his arms down etc while they held the mask on him).  That freaked ME out a bit, although I have friends who prepared me for that part which was good.

110% worthwhile though.  Good luck! :)
