Infertility

I emailed Barack Obama (IF coverage)

Hey girls...
I figured what a better time to get the CHANGE all of us need - infertility coverage. :) So, I have jumped into the political circle here. Barack Obama has a place asking for our ideas and how we want to change things. Here is the link:

My response is posted below. I know it may be a long shot that I'll hear anything, but I figured if we bombarded his website with our ideas, then we may get politicians talking about IF. I am also going to email John McCain. I will post his link if I find it.
I will let you know if I hear anything! You can all copy and paste portions or all of my paragraphs if you can't think of what to say and you're interested in sending in your idea.
One way or another we NEED to get coverage for our oop girls! We all deserve better than this....

I strongly suggest that you initiate infertility coverage for couples struggling in the U.S. This health condition effects 1 out of every 6 couples. Currently, there are only 8 states that have mandatory infertility coverage. An average couple who has to undergo IVF (in vitro fertilization) will spend at least $50,000 out of pocket between procedures, treatments, prescription drugs! Every couple should have the right to conceive a biological child if they so desire.
This is a HUGE issue among thousands of couples. There are probably not many issues that effect as many people as infertility does. I have personally not heard one politician speak on this topic.
I am very rooted in the infertility community, and I have personally seen thousands of cases where families are not able to have their own biological children because of the cost of health care. How sad.
My husband and I both work in employee benefits. We are ready to stand behind any politician that can CHANGE the health care community and make sure it works for the average everday couple - the infertility couple. And, I know several thousands of other couples who feel the same way. Remember, 1 out of every 6 couples are looking to hear something on an issue that effects them everyday.

I would love to support your candidacy if I heard that you can support infertility coverage (testing, diagnostic and treatment procedures and prescription drugs) as part of your health care reform.
Thank you

  • I knew you'd be happy Sourpop. :)

One of my clients was the Communications Officer for Pres Clinton's team for the 8 years that he was in office. I am having conversations with him about how I can actually speak to someone on Obama's team about making change for IF coverage. He is still very well connected to the Democratic party obviously.

I have been a die hard Republican my whole life, but I will become a Democrat if someone would stand up for IF!

I've tried to find politicians views on IF coverage in conjunction with all the health care debates, but I just can't find it
