Swollen legs/feet after c-section.

Anybody else experiencing painful & extreme swelling in your legs & feet after c-section? If so, how are you coping? My HR isn't up, so nobody's concerned, I'm just plain uncomfortable!!! Oh, and I'm new to the board. I just had my little boy via c-section on 12/22.

Re: Swollen legs/feet after c-section.

  • Congrats on the birth of your son. What a great way to celebrate the holidays this year :)

Yes, I was very swollen in the legs after my c-section. It wasn't pretty. Mine lasted about a week. Drink lots of water and try to elevate your feet when you can.

Yes the swelling sucked!!! It's totally normal, and will go down in a couple of days. Mine went away around 10 days pp literally over night, I actually have bones in my feet again!!! I hadn't seen those in about 20 weeks!

I had the exact same experience. It was painful due to my skin stretching so much, it hurt like bruises all over afterwards. If you are feeling sharp pains in your calves you need to call right away though, that is a sign of a blood clot.

???? Maybe you misunderstood my response, but I meant like I can see the bones in my feet, like as in they are not piggy feet anymore. I'm not in pain, and don't have a blood clot. Big Smile

I wasn't responding to you, I was telling the OP that if it's painful to call the doc. I knew exactly what you meant, I had that ah ha I have feet and not boats on the end of my legs moment too.

  • Congrats! :)  I didn't have a c-sec, but my feet/legs were super swollen for 2 weeks post-delivery. I kept drinking a ton of water and eventually everything went back to normal. It was awful- I feel your pain! It will get better, though!
  • Yep. I was more swollen PP than pg, because of the fluids they give you for a c sec. It went away in about a week and a half. Good luck, drink lots of water and prop up your feet when you can.

  • My ankles were so swollen one week pp that I was put on anti-swelling meds(If I wasn't pumping, I'd go into the bathroom to tell you exactly what it was). My doctor was concerned, but it went down within two days of starting the meds.
