Toddler Bed vs. Full Bed

Although I am not moving DD out of her crib until the summer I was wondering about toddler bed vs. full.  DD's bed converts to both but I know a full bed will not fit in her current room and I know a full size will be snug when I move her to another room.  I wanted to ask (yes, on Christmas even though no one is on) which I should try first and about how long can I keep DD in a toddler bed.

I plan to do the toddler bed first because it is an easier transition to not sleeping in a crib. Even with bed rails, to go from a crib right into a full-sized bed is a huge step, IMO. The switch to the toddler bed is less of a leap, as it is the same crib, minus one side. It is familiar and comfortable. Once my LO has about out grown the toddler bed, we will then, likely, have him sleep on the full sized mattress and box spring, on the floor, at first, until he is comfortable sleeping on a larger bed. While having lots of room to roll around and get comfy may seem wonderful to us as adults, many toddlers like and seem to more comfortable with smaller spaces. But, you know your toddler best, so do what feels right!

We skipped the toddler bed and went straight to a full size floor bed. We LOVE it, but we didn't use her crib except maybe 10 times. So the transition from bedsharing to a floor bed seemed natural and seamless. If your DD is in a crib and you know a full bed won't fit in her room, a toddler bed seems like a good choice with your circumstances.

If you don't have the room for a full bed, start with the toddler bed. I have a friend who converted her 3 year old to a toddler bed (yes, he was still in the crib at 3 years old...), so you can likely keep her in it until she no longer fits, or exceeds the bed's weight limit (check i there is one).
