Interested to see the responses, I am trying to figure out what we are going to do. If we left the tape rolling the whole time it would be a lot of us chasing her around and trying to help her open gifts. I don't think it would be the most exciting thing, but I know years from now it will be a joy to see. This way we could run in and out of the room to grab things and take pics w/o having to worry about missing something.
We'll set the video camera up on the tripod and let it run the entire time. It may not be thrilling footage for everyone, but for us when we're old and gray, it will be priceless. Not to mention, if I ever really learned our editing software, I could edit it down to a more entertaining clip.
Also, and yes this is vain, but I will take an extra shower tonight, and wash and dry my hair, so I don't look quite so crap-taculous in the morning.
You just have to be sure to check on it every so often and make sure it's close to the subject. My dad set the tripod up when we were kids and the footage sucks because he had it too far away. You can't see what we're opening and you can barely make out who is talking.
I'm not sure. Our video camera is broken, so we can only take clips with our point and shoot. I think I'll probably film a few minutes here and there, but that's it. I want to enjoy the moment too. I'm also more interested in getting photos of him opening his gifts. If my tripod wasn't broken, I'd use that set to continuous and then just let it take the photos, but since that's not an option I'll probably just get a few snaphots of him opening his stocking, opening his gifts, playing with his train set (which will be set up around the base of the tree), etc, and then put the camera away. I also plan to get a family photo of the three of us in our new Christmas PJs once all the gift opening is done.
I'm so glad i read this. I hadn't thought of setting the video up on the tripod! We have a Flip so we usually just take short clips but I think the tripod will work well

I always wake DS up so I think I will have DH set the video camera up while he takes pics
Since DS is still so little we wont tape the whole thing-that would take way to long!
