How to get baby off the boob!

I EBF DS from day one and loved it.  About a month ago, I stopped pumping at work and only nursed him at home.  I hoped this transition off of breastmilk would help him.  Unfortunately, if I am home he throws a huge fit if I try to offer a bottle or cup instead of the breast.  Maybe it sounds selfish, but I am so done with nursing.  I want to stop completely, but have no idea what to do at this point.  Can anyone offer me any tips here?

Re: How to get baby off the boob!

  • I started dropping one feeding at a time and just dropped the last feeding this past week.  When I would normally nurse her I would try to distract her with other things. After a few days she wasn't even asking to nurse during the time that I was trying to drop.  Eventually we got it down to right before bed and that was the hardest to drop.  If your DH/SO can help at night time that will be a big help. My DH has been putting her to sleep and I make myself not visible and as soon as she's comfortable with no nursing we will try letting her see me before bed.
