Rydia?

My husband loves the name Rydia for a girl... I don't like it!  I haven't even found it on a baby name list.  Luckily we have agreed on Avery for a first name.  He wants to use Rydia for the middle name.  Anyone else think Avery Rydia doesn't flow well (last name also starts with A) or is it just because I hate it??  His favorite boy's name is Cyan (I don't know where he comes up with this stuff!) so we are also considering Avery Cyan even though its a girl.  My choice is Avery June (my mom's middle name).  What do you think, do you I let him have the middle name I hate?

Avery June is really sweet! I like that the best. Rydia and Cyan should never be worn on a child - unless he/she is very, very naughty! lol Yeah... not a fan.

Maybe it's just because I just watched A Christmas Story (which ends with the fa-ra-ra-ra-ras in the Chinese restaurant), but Rydia sounds like a horrible version of Lydia with a racist/stereotyping Asian accent. Not good.

ETA: But to answer your question, I like Avery June.

You probably won't find Rydia on any name list because its not a real name.  Its pretty bad.  Cyan makes me think of Cyanide.  Avery June is pretty!

I really like Avery June. It's so pretty, and the middle name has family meaning to you. Rydia and Cyan are NMS at all. Maybe its just because I'm a graphic designer, by Cyan just makes me think of the color.

I had the SAME thought as broomy about the fa-ra-ra-ra-ras!  Do NOT let your H talk you into this horrifying name.  Cyan also makes me think of the color.  Avery June is beautiful.

Of the choices, I like Avery June best.

Since Avery is a unisex name, Cyan just makes it look like a boy name.

i thought the same about Rydia. it sounds like get "rid of ya"

i think of the color Cyan but it also reminds me of my sisters name cuz they rhyme. ive never met a boy with the name Cyan but i have met one girl.

so i would go with Avery June (altho June is NMS) or Avery Cyan.

I say get a dog or cat and let him name it Rydia or Cyan! They just sound made up!

I hope you laughed at him when he suggested those names, because they're terrible. Avery June is perfect. Rydia sounds like some sort of medicinal herb and Cyan definately the ugly color.

I'm guessing your DH is into Final Fantasy?  I knew I recognized the name, and sure enough a quick Google search says a character from FFIV is the only instance of the name(aside from a domain name, rydia.net, sometimes used for email).

And in case you're thinking, as my DH did, that I found the "sluttiest" looking picture available to prove my point--no, this is the actual "official" character art for the character, and the top images that show up in a search for just the word "Rydia".  Google pulls up a lot of T&A pinup-style fanart, along with some shots of "suddenly pregnant Rydia" and other such things.

Cyan was a male character from the same game series, two games later--he was a knight(or samurai, depending on who translated the game version you're looking at).  Here's his character art, pixelation and all:

  

 

If you're ok with naming your daughter after either of these, then go for it--otherwise, ask him to try again.

Your DH has some issues! Rydia is apparently a Final Fantasy character. https://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Rydia No way would I name a poor child that. I assumed that with such a bizarre name like that from Final Fantasy that Cyan would be also and surprise surprise... https://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Cyan_Garamonde. Yuck. Go with June!

I wonder where he comes up with these names, too!  Cyan is ok, Rydia is awful and June is cute.  

Even when we were dating I (somewhat seriously) told my husband that any babies he carried he could name... I'm holding that rule in reserve for if he picks any names I hate too much.
