Frustrated with carriers esp. nursing

I bought the Baby K'tan, the Moby, and the Balboa sling. I don't know how to get LO in there well and I don't know any babywearers. The Baby K'tan is the only one that I can get my newborn in comfortable when he's in a horizontal position so it doesn't look like pictures where babies are sitting. I've seen a million YouTube videos. Grrr.

I want to keep the Baby K'tan. It's the only one I have any hope of figuring out. I tried nursing in all of them and it definitely didn't work! Any suggestions on sites or videos that will help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Frustrated with carriers esp. nursing

  • No idea about the k'tan. I used a ring sling, and just shifted baby sideways from sitting.

Here's a pic. He was 29" and 19lb in the pic. I have big boobs so he's down pretty low. It's not a comfy way for me to hold him long term, but it was ok for short times to nurse (half hour or less). But if your chest isn't as saggy as mine then that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks; It's nice to hear that I'm not alone. I can get DS to latch but it's on awkward positions where he looks *really* uncomfortable. I wish I knew people who BW but being new to the state I don't k ow very many people at all. In January I'll join a mommy group and perhaps I'll get lucky. DH and I kept a Baby K'tan each and he's much much better positioning/carrying the baby. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to help me nurse I'm the carrier!
  • I'd stop trying to do the cradle hold (the horizontal one) and go straight to the hug hold or tummy-to-tummy. I know that doesn't help for nursing, but it will be more comfy for you and LO (and less dangerous)! I never mastered nursing IN the carrier, but I do use my carriers to shield us. So, I don't have a Moby, but I do have a wrap, and from the FWCC, if I were going to nurse on the right side, I'd slip it off my left shoulder and pull on the right shoulder so that there was more slack on that side and use that material to cover baby. Does that make sense?
