Talk to me about fruit/veggie juice

I have never given DS anything to drink other than water, formula, and breastmilk.  DH drinks V8 (the regular kind) every morning and I'm wondering if I couldn't try DS with it too.  We are trying to get off of purees but he is not very fond of veggie textures.

Do you give fruit or veggie juices?  Why or why not?  Which ones and at what point in the day?

  • I'd just try to find one that is 100% juice with no added sugar & extra crap.  I wdon't see why it would be bad.  Maybe dilute it a bit so it doesn't upset LO's tummy.  The only time I'd give juice is at snack time.  I just recently started giving Emerson Apple juice at snack time!  It's milk at meals & she has a water sippy out all the time

  • I give DD V8 Fusion and Regular V8 however we give her the "Lite" I think they're called.  The regular ones have ALOT of Sodium.

I give it to DD sometimes at lunch or with dinner or just to wet her whistle.

*Edit* She also has apple, peachgrape juice in the rotation as well.

  • I'm an evil bad mom but my son drinks juice all day. We use juicyjuice (100% juice) or the V8 blends and mix it with half water. He usually will go through about 3 sippy cups a day.

Regular V8 has a buttload of salt. Look for a product that's sodium-free (none added) and 100% juice. Vruit is pretty good (I drink it), and I know there's a fruit/veggie diluted juice at Whole Foods.

Thanks, I'l check that out.  Whole Foods is a hike for us but a Sprouts is opening nearby soon  and I bet they'll have something similar.
