I know it only takes a minute but the article leaves out some pretty big details. For instance, where was the parent??? Right by the car or in the house out of sight? Why was the kid in the car alone to begin with?
I think the post the other day was more about leaving your kid for a moment in a locked car while they were still in your sight to use an ATM. It's totally different when you leave your child in an unlocked, running car and walk away. I'm glad this little guy was found safe and sound!

That story has got some big holes in it. Doesn't change my view on the ATM situation from the other day-I have no problem leaving her in the car locked in while I'm 5 feet away.
it really takes a long time to break into, and hotwire a car. if you car is locked, and the keys are not in the car, you would have to leave LO unattended for awhile. More than a minute - at least. And a lot of cars of have car alarms.
I think with the ATM situation it is safer to leave your LO locked in car. Women + money + alone = potential danger. If you did get attacked and robbed (gd forbid), LO would be safer in the car.
I am not one to say I would never do something - everything is situational.

That's so scary, but I'm glad he was ok! I struggle with this now that I have 2u2. When I'm loading up the car to go somewhere with both babies, I always put one in the car first, then go back into the house to get the other one. I always try to keep one eye on the car as I'm scrambling to get out the door with the second baby, but I know this probably isn't the safest way to do it. It's so much harder to manage with two...
On our way to 3 under 4!

That car would have to have been unlocked and the keys in it, likely the ignition and I would bet the thing was running.
Even the best car thief would take quite a bit of time to get into a locked car, and virtually any car 6 years or newer absolutely cannot be 'hotwired'. That is something out of the movies.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
