bf-ing milk supply question

curious to know if anybody knows how long it takes for your milk supply to go away? I was breast feeding and have gone the past few days with just formula feeding, we've been out a lot and its just been easier..i'm a little modest when it comes to nursing in public. Anyways, just wondering if i were to start nursing again or taking pills like that fenugreek(sp?) i keep hearing about or anything that is supposed to boost milk supply if it'll help. not nursing makes me miss nursing, he always used to look at me out of the corner of his eye, and just being close to each other like that.

  • if it has just been a couple of days- and you want to keep nursing. i would just keep your baby on your breast as much as possible.

you don't need to take any pills or whatnot. just nurse nurse nurse.

  • I'm not sure how long it takes to lose it; it may vary depending on how long you've nursed. Two weeks after delivery I had to travel and couldn't pump for 12 hours the first day and 10 hours the next. I had a great supply before that, but after - it almost went away. I took FenuGreek for about 2 weeks and got my supply back up and 14 weeks later it's still fine. I can go 10 -12 hours now without pumping and I'm still fine... The Fenugreek will make you smell like maple syrup, but that's how you know it's working :)  Good luck!

This.  And it will take a day or 2 for you to see your supply increase. Definitely have a nurse-in.

  • fenugreek alone won't make you relactate. fwiw, it never worked for me -- i never smelled like maple syrup. you'd better ge that baby back on your breast if you don't want to lose your milk!
