Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Bringing babies to altitude

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and am planning to spend holidays with some family up in the Tahoe area.

The elevation/altitude is 8,000 feet.  Is it OK to bring my 6-week-old twin babies to that elevation, at this age?

If so, is there a particular method to bringing them to that elevation, via driving?  i.e. stop at 4,000 ft for a half hour or so to acclimate?  (I mean, we'll need to stop and feed at some point, that might be a good time to do it)

Thanks!

Re: Bringing babies to altitude

  • its perfectly fine to bring the babies up there... many babies are born there too....

since you are driving, there is no reason to stop at a certain elevation. You are going so slow that it won't matter... make sure you drink lots of water! the elevation can wear you out...

  • Um, my baby was born at something around that altitude if not higher. She doesn't have any problems.
