I've never been a huge milk drinker, until I was pregnant with DS. I am still BF'ing strong, and DS has had no cow's milk except for in cooked things.
Question 1: If, when he decides to wean, I don't want to sub cow's milk, what would be the healthiest alternative? I like Almond Milk, DH hates it. I think he'll stick with the cow. I would like to switch.
Question 2: When baking, or making an alfredo sauce, do you use your choice of milk alternative? Does it affect the taste or texture?
Question 3: Do I need to ask pedi before I do this? DS is on the smaller end of the scale, and I don't want him to miss out on good fats and nutrients.
Re: Milk Alternative questions
Why do you not want him to have cow's milk? None of the alternatives come close in vitamins and good fats; if you want to skip cow's milk you should keep BFing.
I sometimes use replacement milks in recipes, but they're expensive and I don't use them enough so they go to waste. I usually just use water instead.
I do plan on breastfeeding until 2. DS won't drink BM from a bottle or sippy cup, but will drink water. I guess I just want to have an alternative to go to if he decides to wean sooner than 2.
I want to make the switch from cow's milk to an alternative. There is no need for me to drink milk since I get vitamins from other sources.
