Pregnant after a Loss

WWPgALD (parking and whining involved)

Ok, so my office has a biggish and usually pretty crowded parking lot, and it can get pretty icy and sketchy this time of year.  Since my department starts later than the rest of the office, I often get stuck parking pretty far away.

We've always had these three spots near the door (in addition to the regular handicapped ones), that are supposedly reserved for injured or pregnant people.  However, these spots, every day, are taken by the three highest-ups in the organization.

So, as I head into the waddling stage of pregnancy, what should I do?  Do I make an issue out of it, at the risk of pissing off the higher-ups, or do I keep my mouth shut?

  • Is there an HR department where you can file an anonymous complaint?

Yes, but it's headed by one of the offenders.  Smile

Ooo, that makes it difficult.  I would probably go to HR and ask if there is any way you can get a closer parking spot for the duration of your pregnancy as the icy conditions and long walk is difficult for you.  I wouldn't call anyone out, but ask innocently and hopefully they will realize they are jerks and stop stealing the parking that isn't intended for them.

Or you could be a witch and if any of the offenders are a girl - congratulate them on their pregnancy and ask how far along they are.  When they look confused - tell them you noticed where they were parking and say sorry for the assumption.

  • Maybe instead of asking that one of the spots are given up, maybe you can approach the subject saying, "Is it possible to add an additional spot on a temporary basis due to your pregnancy and obvious safety concerns."   Maybe one of them will be guilted into giving up the spot instead of feeling forced or maybe they'll create another one for you.

I think that's the best bet.

  • I'd say something. God forbid you fall and something bad happen, all for the sake of not wanting to bring it up.

  • I would talk to my boss and HR. Explain your concerns about slipping and falling and the risks involved.  That way it's not like you're whining about it.

  • Talk with HR. I think they can either accommodate an additional spot or give up a spot for you. No one should have a problem with it, especially given the conditions you are walking through.
  • all of the above. and then remind them you're a lawyer. and what they don't want is a slip and fall case from a pregnant lady.

    I like this idea!
