Rotavirus Vaccination

DS got his first rotavirus vaccination a few days ago. The first night after he got it, he threw up quite badly. Same thing the second night. Then today (the third day) he threw up again.

He isn't crying, doesn't seem to be in pain, wants to eat regularly and is sleeping regularly. However, the throwing up is quite unpleasant!

I have read that babies might vomit for up to a week after the vaccination, but I don't know how much vomit is too much...

Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Rotavirus Vaccination

  • did you call your pedi? is it spit up or vomit? i'd call the doc if my baby was vomiting!

  • It is vomit. The nurse who administered the vaccination said that he might have a fever for up to a day (he didn't) and would have an upset stomach. In  the vaccination literature, it states that a baby may vomit for up to 7 days.

  • If his appetite is good and is still having plenty of we diapers, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  If he starts getting uninterested in eating and is having dry diapers from vomitting so much, then that is too much vomitting.  Hope he feels better soon!
