We are working on getting our crib and bed level as well. Is your crib on the lowest setting? If not I would lower it and then, if it is too low, put something underneath it (another crib mattress, foam, blankets, etc.) to raise it up to even with your bed. I think it would be easier to raise the crib mattress than the much larger bed mattress.
We used bed risers underneath the legs of the crib. For us, it worked out like that, but if that made it too high for you, you could also lower the mattress & use bed risers.

Thanks for the advice on sidecarring last week. I have the risers and the mattress crack filler.
What do you do for naps? I think my DH is into this idea, but he said to put DD in the sidecarred crib for naps or into bed before we are there at night is "crazy" as she could just crawl out.
What do people do about this? DD is crazy active and will try to crawl over, pull up, jump over anything.
