2nd Trimester

Going to chiropractor this week for 1st time--so excited!!!

How sad is it that I'm so excited to see a chiro for the first time ever while pregnant?  I've been to them before several times, but never while pregnant--was always too nervous but my lower back pain and sciatica, neckaches and headaches are just unbearable and eventually will also take a toll on the health of my baby AND myself--so I just need to do it.  I researched and this husband and wife team are supposed to be awesome with pregnant women AND children--they even adjust newborns.

So hear is to hoping for the best Christmas gift ever---not having a headache or neck ache for the first time in weeks!!  I go on Thursday--can't wait.

If you've ever been while pregnant, any tips or experiences to share??

  • Do share how the appointment pans out for you.  I am seriously considering getting a referall to a chiropractor myself.  This sciatic nerve pain is getting worse!

  • I've been seeing a chiro regularly for about two years. Once I became pregnant, he has only slightly changed the adjustments that I get (for ongoing headaches & back pain). Right now I go about every 2 weeks, and he wants to up it to weekly by mid-third tri. I don't know what I'd do without my chiro appointments- my belly's too big for my husband to pop my back anymore!
  • Yes, please tell us how it goes. DH has been urging me to go but I'm nervous. I know I should go but for some reason going pregnant makes me uneasy. Your good experience may just push me over. Good luck.

  • I am 24 weeks AND a Chiropractor - so from both sides DO IT!!!

Also, I adjusted a 4 day old baby boy after a traumatic birth (really, they all are) - cord wrapped around neck leading to c-section after 24 hours labor - and am pleased to say he's not screamimg anymore!

As Dr and patient, I would really urge you to go-- it's completely safe (and recommended) during pregnancy.Smile

Awesome!!!!   Gosh--I never thought to do that with DS.....he had the cord wrapped and ended in c/s too--and he screamed for hours afterwards and then months....hardly slept.....ended up with severe food allergies, etc.  This time maybe I'll look in to chiropractic if baby #2 is the same way.  LOL.

  • I used to go all the time, and then stopped going for aabout 6 months.  I started going again 3 weeks ago. He slightly modified how he does things, I don't lay on my stomach anymore.

My only complaint is that I am quite tender after for a couple days.  Each time I am tender for less days.  He said after another week or two I won't be tender after anymore.  I really find it to be a huge help. It helps my whole body feel a little more loose.

  • I loooove love love it. I have really bad hip issues, so I have to go regularly.

My doctor is amazing. I still lay on my stomach (on the drop table), and he uses the um, thumper thing because I'm usually to sore to be twisted around.. I always feel a difference the second I stand up.

  • I can not praise chiropractic enough - I used to have severe headaches - taking tons of Advil (pushing overdose, I'm sure) and my DH encouraged me to go see his Dr.  What a huge difference!!!  Now I don't go unless I have a problem - but if I have a headache that's bad enough for me to reach for the tylenol for more than a day, I call him.  I have been adjusted 2x since BFP and it is amazing!!!  I'm too big now to lay on my stomach, so I'm not sure what he'll do next time, but I'm sure it won't be long until I find out!!!  Working retail at Xmas is enough to give anyone a headache!!! • im thinking of going to one for my sleeping aches and pains. Every night the hip pain wakes me up.
  • I've been a couple of times since I was pregnant to help with back pain and headaches. My chiro is very gentle and only adjusts me with a little tool (an activator) . I've never had any worries about harming the baby, and it's definitely safer than taking a bunch of painkillers.

Newborn adjustments are also very gentle - they don't wrench on a little baby like they might on a full grown adult. Once my usual chiro is back from her maternity leave, I will talk to her about it.
