Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9 month old has ringworm! Daycare ok?

I have NO idea how she got it or when but several weeks ago I noticed two reddish, flakey spots which I thought were just dry spots and tried all sorts of lotions. Anyway, once they started getting   bigger and my friend even mentioned it then I realized what it was.
Im using over the counter anti fungal but I just started so no changes yet.
She doesnt go regularly to daycare, matter of fact only on an as need basis but I was just wondering if I can still take her there if I absolutely had to. The pharmacist said it could take 4 weeks to go away!! But is it safe enough to take her to daycare?

  • I would keep it covered, and let the teachers know.  Where is it?

  • Ringworm is highly contagious. The schools I worked at would not let a child with it come in.

  • There's one right below her left eye and directly in between her shoulder blades.
  • while it can be contagious, it's not necessarily through touch alone. My sister got chronic ring worm from working at a pool. She gets a dose of it once or twice a year and will for the rest of her life. However, the dr. she has seen for it has told her that as long as it's not bleeding, she doesn't have to worry about it touching others.

Just saying. It's something to look into so that you know!

  • I would check with my Pedi about that - I know it is very contagious so I wouldn't want to spread it. I would confirm with him one way or the other.
