Menstrual like cramps - a sign?

I started having menstrual like cramps yesterday.  Noting regular, but painful.  Could this be sign of labor starting?  Anyone else have these cramps and not deliver early?  I would like for them to stay put for another week at least.

I have had these for several weeks and still no babies!  I don't think its a sure sign of labor, but I have read about some ladies who have cramps and are in labor.

I am 36 weeks and have been having menstrual type cramps pretty bad on and off for a month now... and still have not delivered. My doctor wasn't too concerned, just said it's the bodies way of "preparing" for labor. But it still makes me paranoid....  I would mention it to your doctor  though, but I'm sure it's just normal preggo symptoms.

If you can time the cramps, then yes it can be a sign of labor. If they aren't timeable, it's just your bodies way of preparing for labor. I've had menstrual-like cramping for a couple of weeks now. Sometimes its timeable, but not 5 minutes apart enough for me to call.

I would definitely tell your doctor. I assume you're having weekly visits? I was in PTL starting at 26 weeks and had no idea I was having contractions. The contractions did feel like menstrual cramps. One thing to look for- Does your stomach get hard at all (not necessarily all over) when you feel crampy? If so, it could be a contraction.

I am having them when I am having contractions, which made me think this could mean something.  I will just keep an eye on them and mention it to my dr. at my next visit.  Thanks Ladies....this makes me feel better.
