BWing & flying Q

I'm going to be flying 'alone' with my DD and DS over the holidays (short flight) and was wondering if any of you knew or had experience...

do you think I'll be able to wear DD in my mei tai through security?
how about during take-off/landing? ETA- disregard this last question- I see now it's unsafe :(

  • They have really cracked down on wearing your baby through security and are not allowing it now. It is possible you will get someone who lets you, but the rule now is that you are not allowed to wear them through. And they must be in either your arms or an FAA approved carrier on take off and landing, so, again, while you could get a FA who doesn't make you take them out, you are not supposed to wear them during take of or landing.

  • They will almost most definitely make you remove your baby from the carrier when going through security.

  • When I flew over Thanksgiving I was not allowed to have DS in the Beco through security on the way out, but I was on the way back. Like everything air travel related, it depends on the person you're dealing with.

  • Go ahead and prepare to not only have to take baby OUT of the carrier, but to have to remove the carrier and put it through security.

And as for take-off/landing, I recently asked a flight attendant why they have that rule. She said something about in case there's a crash and I'm pinned down by something, it's easier to remove the baby if she isn't attached to me. Yeah...if there's a crash so bad that I'm pinned down, odds are I have not managed to hold onto my baby and she's somewhere else entirely. So I'm not sure that's really a win, but whatever. Usually I nurse her for takeoff and she's asleep for landing. I just close my eyes and wrap my arms around her, and no flight attendant yet has dared bother sleeping mom AND baby for landing. :D

  • Did they just change things? I flew buffalo->houston with a layover in Atlanta the end of October, I wore LO in the moby both times and on a few take-off/landings.

Yes, they became much more strict at the beginning of November. You have never been allowed to wear them on take-off/landings, but some flight attendants let you do it anyway. I have never, fwiw, been able to wear my moby through security in Atlanta, even 2 years ago.
