2nd Trimester

None of the I have lost weight or gained 3 lb girls allowed! lol

I found out today I have gained 24 lbs at 23 weeks!  Ahhh!  With my previous pregnancies I always told the nurse not to tell me and just figured I would worry about it later.  Today, I thought I would live on the wildside and glance at the scale while the nurse was weighing me.

My doc didnt bring it up so I asked her about it and she said I was fine and that I always seem to "shrink right down" after my babies so I should not worry.  (Thank God for breastdfeeding...my only salvation lol!)

Anyone out there gain a lot brave enough to post so I don't have to feel like a huge tugboat alone??;)

  • With my son I gained 65 lbs.. I weighted in at 181 when I got pregnant and gave birth at 246!!

When I look back at my pictures the day they induced me I now understood why people thought I was giving birth to twins, triplets or toddlers.. LOL!!!

  • I gained over 60 lbs with my first...then I found out at 30 weeks i had GD and that was probably the cause of it.  Still had 20 to lose when I got pregnant again, so I haven't gained much this time...yet.

  • I'm 21w and I've gained between 14-19lbs (Not sure of my starting weight).

I'm happy with my weight gain and you should be too. You aren't over doing it, IMO.

As long as you feel like you are eating well and getting some exercise (and chasing after other children totally counts) then stop looking at the scale!

  • my best friend gained 50 lbs with her pregnancy! she was small to begin with, but the nurses gave her a hard time about her weight! she lost it all in a couple months too so i think it all depends on each person! i gained 7 lbs before i even found out i was pregnant!

  • I gained 60+ with DD!!! Everyone is different!!! My Dr. never said anything to me about it so I never worried.  It took me about 2 years to get back to my pre pregnancy weight with her but I was pretty close to my normal size by the time she was three months old!

  • At 20 weeks I had gained 9 lbs, but I also have a job where I'm on my feet 8 hours a day. Everyone is different. If your doctor isn't concerned, then I wouldn't be either.

  • I gained 70 with my first son and lost it all plus about 10 extra pounds in under 3 months.  So far with this one I have gained 15 pounds, but the pace is picking up, so I wouldn't be surprised if I get up there again, although I am going to try not to.

I would not be concerned at all with your weight gain.  You are doing exactly what you need to be!

  • This should make you feel better at least!! 25 pounds in 23 weeks!! Well Im super excited about it because I have curves now. This is my first pregnancy and I was always very small. I finally have boobs lol.
  • I am a type-II diabetic and had to go off some of my medications when I found out I was pregnant (it was a total surprise). Anyway, I had gained a whopping 24 lbs by 16 weeks (based on my last weight with my endocrinologist almost 3 months prior). Since then, however, my weight is yo-yoing... the doctor isn't concerned, because I was a big girl in the first place. He said as long as I'm eating a healthy diet and watching my blood sugar, he's not too worried about where my weight is now. He did caution me not to gain too much, but as of now, I'm holding pretty steady.
  • At my last appointment I found out that I had gained 9 lbs in 4 weeks. I was horrified, but am trying to calm down. I did that with my previous pregnancy, too. Overall weight gain is about 18 lbs (that was at about 21 weeks or so.) Doc doesn't seem concerned, so I'm not.

I'm just trying to watch my sugar intake and get a bit more exercise---and other than that I am trying not to focus on my expanding rear. It's just a season!

  • With my first I gained 75 and with my second I gained 70. With this one I've only lost some (I'm only 12 weeks). Every pregnancy is different. Just make sure you're eating healthy! :]

  • This is my first baby (usually a lurker but thought I'd share too)

I've gained 28 lbs and am one day shy of 19 weeks. I never threw up during the first trimester and carbs were the only thing that didn't make me nauseous. I'm trying to watch what I eat and excercise more but, it's been tough. I'm right here with you!

  • I've gained 23 lbs as of my drs appt yesterday. I had gained 20 by 12 weeks then I lost 3 and didn't gain any weight for over 7 weeks, then put on 6 lbs in the last week. ?? This is my first so I'm a little freaked out by it all. My dr is not concerned because he's only seen 3 lbs of weight gain.  I switched practices at 14 weeks. I explained all of this to hima nd he said, your blood pressure's fine, your urine is fine, your measurements are fine, I'm not worried. Before I POAS, I put on 4 lbs and by the time I was 6 weeks I could not fit into any of my old clothes and had to buy maternity clothes. Its all in my butt and thighs. Nobody I know thinks i look pregnant-they all say I just look like I've been to one too many buffets. Its been hard to accept. I'm wondering when I'm going to start looking pregnant. I'm still working out for 90 mins a day.
  • I'm up 18-19 pounds at almost 22 weeks. But some of my pre- pregnancy jeans still fit. They don't close but they still fit in the hips and things so I figure I must not be gaining it all over. I'm thinking I'll end up gaiing at least 40-45, maybe more. I'm not up at night eating ice cream sundaes so I figure this is just how my body responds to pregnancy.

  • I like this thread.  I'm up about 16lbs but its been a steady weight gain, and I've continued to exercise and watch what I eat.  My usual doctor hasn't said a word about it but I got a lot of flack from the US doctor.  He also insinuated that our baby wouldn't be smart because of my eating habits... great, thanks.

  • I've gained 21 lbs so far. I'm basically on the same weight gain trend that I was with DS and I only ended up gaining 35 lbs total. My weight gets packed on in the beginning and tapers at the end - I only gained ONE lb in the last 6 weeks of my previous pregnancy.

I lost all but 7 lbs within the first 3 weeks after DS was born (also thanks to BFing!). The last 7 gradually came off over the next year and I started off this pregnancy a little below my pre-pregnancy weight with DS (even a little lower than my wedding day weight!).

  • I am up 17 lbs and am 18 weeks.  I have been kind of worried because I feel so much bigger then everyone else I see that is farther along them me.  Thank you to everyone for sharing!  I know what is important is trying to eat healthy (while trying to keep nausea at bay) and to keep moving.  :)

  • Thank you SO much for all of your feedback!  I am glad I am not alone!  Today was sort of a shock but this is my last pregnancy so I am enjoying my extra little "treats" while I can!  I did start back into my exercise routine today though!
  • I am up 17 lbs at almost 22 weeks.  I had an appt yesterday and my Dr made a comment that that was bad, but I thought it was pretty normal.  It sort of got me worried, but I have been going to the gym -- and my chest is gigantic...so a lot of it is in my bra.  Lucky me.
  • I gained just about 40lbs with my DS and my dr said that 1lb/week for a pregnancy is fine, he didn't care. I'm hoping I don't do that this time around though b/c I was already 20lbs over my "normal" weight...I'm just trying to make better choices (The best that I can anyway lol) instead of eating a bag of cookies I'm trying to eat lots of fruit or veggies....if I can stuff myself with the good stuff I'll save myself a lot of calories.

ETA: FYI--I think I really just wrote this to reassure myself to stay on track!!! Don't go off the path.. I've been saying to myself lol

  • Thank you!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of the posts where they're all comparing how little weight they have gained or how much they lost...as if it's a freakin contest. These are the probably the same people that say that pregnancy is a breeze and that they love being pregnant. Shut up already.

That's why I loved Jenny McCartney's book and how she was honest at how much weight she gained, how big her ass got, and how she has cellulite everywhere. FInally, a woman that is being honest.

That said, I know I've gained quite a bit and after the first 2 months...i just stopped counting and accepted it.

  • I had gained 14 by my 23 week appt. I am trying to only put on 1 pound a week, but it looks like I'll be up like 5-6 for my 27 week appt (Thanksgiving and a million holiday parties are to blame!), so 19-20 lbs at 27 weeks. I have really been trying to strive for 20-25 (that whole 15-25 lb range for people in my BMI is crap. The baby, placenta, extra blood, etc weighs btw 17-20 lbs!). I'm pretty proud of the weight that I've gained so far. I follow the Brewer's Diet and I journal what I eat on babyfit.com. I know that the majority of the weight I've gained is what my body needs to gain in order for me to have a healthy pregnancy.

Also, I gained 8 pounds btw Thanksgiving and New Years last year and I wasn't pregnant! I figure I'll gain about the same amount this year, but my baby is putting on weight now, so some of that is him!

  • I am up 18-19 lbs so far. I am super bloated so I don't know how much of that is water. I am gaining way more than I did with DD, maybe b/c it's a boy this time. I gained 29 lbs with her and am on track to be more like 39.
