DS HATES the feeling of solid food in his mouth. I will give him tiny pieces and he gags as soon as it touches his tongue. He loves being spoon-fed purees, so I tried mixing some pieces of pasta into his veggies tonight and he detected them immediately and spit them out. He reacted this way to the little puffs at first too and eventually warmed up to them and will now put them into his own mouth. I guess we'll just have to keep trying. Anyone else's LO like this?

Re: Anyone else's LO hate finger foods?
Yep. DS was slow to start purees, and slow to start finger foods. He did great with puffs right away, then slowly started doing OK with cheerios, then moved to chunks of cheese pretty well. You just have to keep trying. Babies don't instinctively know how to chew, move food, then swallow - they really have to practice. Just keep offering.
I actually asked the pedi about this last week and he said even if Sam gags to keep offering foods at every meal and not to get freaked out if he throws up his dinner (which seemed to happen a lot). We started really offering a variety of foods and honestly - this week has been a HUGE leap forward for him. We've even had a few exclusively-finger-foods meals.
GL! He'll get the hang of it!

I totally agree, DD is 11 months and is just now getting good with finger foods...she would gag and throw up and it broke my heart...I hated it. So I would wait a few days and try again (my friends with older kids kept reassuring me)...some kids just take longer and she really didn't eat a lot of pureed stuff still 7 months (more steadily).
Now she loves Cheerios, cheese, pancake, etc...she still eats a lot of pureed stuff but I make it really really thick with multigrain rice cecearl.
Just keep at it and if he seems to really be non-interested, give it a week and try again...a lot changes in a week or two. Plus he is nutritional needs from BM or formula...this is just practice.
