Babies: 0 - 3 Months

babies and flat head

I posted this on the Sept board and now I'm posting on here...doctor mentioned two weeks ago that he's got a little bit of a flat head thing going and to turn his head to the other side. Well that's all great, but he keeps favoring this one side. we put him on the other side but he moves his head around a lot. He does look kinda funny...it is getting flat. And we've been doing lots and lots of tummy time. I'd say a good 30-40 minutes a day. And thats pretty darn good for him. Any ideas or suggestions? Please tell me other people are experiencing this too! How do I make it so he doesn't have a flat head????

Re: babies and flat head

  • I would just keep going on with really long stretches of tummy time I mean just every time you get an extra aimiable moment just go for it :(

  • My LO has a flat spot on the right side of his head. He likes to turn his head that way. I mentioned it to his doctor today and she said if I have him in his swing or bouncer that I can put a rolled up towel on the side he likes to lean to so he doesn't turn his head that way.

She said it was harmless and it happens to some babies. I'm going to try the towel thing and continue with a lot of tummy time. I was stressing about it, but decided I'm going to quit worrying about it.

  • Try putting toys/mobiles/lights on the side that you want him to face. Hopefully having something to look at will encourage him to turn his head.
