Thoughts on "Conrad" (warning: honesty encouraged)

Lay it on me...love it, hate it, meh it?

Oh, and if you feel so inclined, why do you love/hate/meh it? Smile

  • I'm a fan.

Before we knew LO was a DD, I tried to get DH on board with it as an option. He shot it down.

  • I wouldn't side eye it. It feels very Old English to me, although I see it's German. I can't help but envision a red coated soldier yelling "Comrade!" going into battle, but I have very odd connotations.

  • It is my nephew's middle name, but it was his mom's maiden name, so it works. I am not sure I like it as a first name.

  • I'm not a fan because of the Connie factor too.  (Conrad Hilton nn Connie was featured on Mad Men not that long ago.)  So the name gets a "meh" from me, nms but there's worse options out there.

The only thing I don't like about it is "Connie."

::shudders at the thought of ever giving a child of mine a nickname::

The whole concept of nns elude me. I'm going for a nn-free household. If I want my child to go by a nn, I'll just make the nn that actual name.

Good point for those of you who pointed out the "comrade" association. Appreciated and noted!

  • LOVE it... I love most "c" names for boys... If this child is a boy, I want to name him Corbin.
  • DH's grandfather was Conrad. I hated it at first, but is really growing on me. Still, I would use it as a mn rather than a fn because of the "Connie" problem. If you don't do nicknames, it's fine as a fn.
  • This is one of those names that fit all of my criteria, but I just don't like it. I can't lay my finger on why, so I realize that's not much help to you, but the name bothers me. I wouldn't side-eye though, because there's nothing silly or absurd about it.

  • I like it. I don't love it. I wouldn't give it the side eye because it's not a made up, youneek, or trendy name. I wouldn't choose it personally because it's just nms.

It's a family name on DH's side, and it's been used as a first name recently. It's been used as a middle name several times.

  • I think it's cute. I have a student named Conrad in my class this year (it's a family name). No one calls him anything but Conrad and he's a pretty neat kid!

  • The only Conrad I've ever known was nuts, but that aside, I just can't imagine a "cool" Conrad.  It's kind of in the same genre as Harold for me.

  • This was originally close to the top of our list so I asked people IRL what they thought... the most common response was that they knew a creepy Conrad. That wasn't what I was expecting. It came up at least 3 times. The other response was that it sounded very old world German. I still like it but we're passing on it because it went over like lead balloon in my world.

  • Not bad but I immediately think Lauren Conrad.

  • LOVE it.  Plus, I know a Conrad, (man of course), and to my knowledge, no one has never called him Connie and that never even occurred to me.  I think I would be more inclined to make fun of the individual that came up with Connie as a nickname/tease because it seems so lame.

Bonus, this Conrad fella I know is a really good and intelligent person, I went to school with his wife they are absolutely adorable with their family of 5.
