Vibes For A Friend - LONG

I don't usually ask for vibes but, a friend of mine is very concerned about one of her students and I think this little boy needs all the good thoughts he can get.  To quote her:

"He is from the foster care system. Abandoned as a child and is now with a foster mom which is adopting him. The child is always hungry. We do our best to make sure he has enough to eat, but, is only allowed one breakfast with his free breakfast/lunch pass. He absolutely savors each and every bite and will eat everything you give him like he's never going to have anything else. At lunch the "mom" will come up and bring him a small lunch and will take his school lunch away (rumor is she has been seen eating it herself). This has been reported to the school guidance counselor.

 

He was not here for the past few days, and we were extremely worried about what had happened to him. When he came in today, I ask if he had been sick and his response was no. He told me that he had "no-no food" and that momma wouldnt let him come to school. I ask what kind of no-no food he had and he told me pizza and chicken nuggets.  I had his file pulled, he has NO food allergies. I honestly think this child is having food withheld from him as her way of punishing and controlling him."

 

It just breaks my heart that any child has to go through this, let alone at Christmas time.  Any T&P that he will not go hungry and he will be back at school after Christmas break would be very appreciated.

That is absolutely heartbreaking. Lots of T&P for that little boy to get the help and support he needs...as well as the nourishment! Poor, poor little boy.

Oh my goodness.  That is absolutely tragic.  I really hope the school can intervene and get the kid what he needs.

Oh Katy, this is such a heart breaking story.  I pray that this little guy is taken care of and will not go hungry.  So, so sad.

omg Katy....that is heartbreaking.  Can't the school report this to social services?  Or can somebody call "anonymously"?  I want to kick this "mom's" a$$!

This seriously makes me so sad and incredibly angry at the same time.  There are so many horrible stories of abuse in foster homes.  I don't understand how these people are allowed to "care for"/adopt these kids.

That's so sad. Unfortunately, when you teach, you see stories like this that breaks your heart. It's unbelievable what parents do to their children. Hopefully, someone in the school has called DFS. They are mandated reporters and this is considered neglect.

This. I hate the fostercare system. I had a family at one of my schools that was like a factory. They had kids in and out and adopting them all the time. They were all beaten and neglected. I think I called CPS at least once a month. In CA they are so overloaded though, nothing ever got done.

gosh, this is heartbreaking Katy. Lots of vibes to that little boy.

That is so horrible. I can't understand how a person can do that to a child. Tons of T&P for him and for the situation to get resolved very soon.

So sad.  I had similar cases in my classroom as well.

As for his school lunch, since he receives free lunch there are some laws about the lunch being eaten only by the student.  We had some problems in my school with parents coming to "eat lunch with their child" which mean that they ate most of the food off their tray.  This isn't allowed.  I know you said that it's been reported to the counselor, but I think the principal and cafeteria manager should also be notified.  It's been awhile since I've had to deal with this, but the school lunch program is (at least where I taught) pretty serious stuff.  Since it's a national program I would assume that it's the same everywhere. 

Prayers for the little boy and all children going through like situations.  It's so heart breaking.

Oh my gosh, that is just heartbreaking. I really hope the authorities take care of and find him a good home if something is going on.

That absolutely breaks my heart He will be in my prayers. Can the school step up and give him more food (under the table)? Can your friend afford to buy him an extra lunch each day?

That is so sad. If I were your friend I'd report it. My thoughts and prayers are definitely with this little boy.

Aww, this is so heartbreaking.  Hopefully the school will report this and he'll get the attention and protection he needs.
