Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What Does Your Baby Do All Day?

Feeling so lost and confused with Helena's schedule, so I thought I'd ask for help in deciphering what my baby is doing........ She basically sleeps and eats, sleeps and eats. Every now and then she get's royally pissed off and will not go back to sleep after eating. Is this normal? Is it normal in the first place that she just eats and sleeps back and forth like that? I really have never been around babies for longer than 10 minutes so I'm so lost. I know she's only 2 weeks old, but I feel like she should be awake (quietly) and just hanging out sometimes too. When I remember visiting other friends of mine and their babies, those babies would just sit quietly in a bouncer or in someone's arms and just stare and be chill. She is SO not that. She will either be sleeping, eating, or screaming her lungs off. Please tell me what your little one is like around this time (2 weeks)!!!

Re: What Does Your Baby Do All Day?

  • You just described Joys schedule for her first month of life. She didn't get the concept of "chillin' " until later.   Don't worry mama, just have patience.....

however long the night, dawn will break.

  • That's what most babies do for the first few weeks of life.

  • That is what A did...oh wait, she still does that.  She has colic and reflux.  My daughter sits in my arms or screams.  We get the occasional 5-10 min. of play time.

My first DD was that chill baby you are talking about.  It was glorious. I hope you get there and not end up where I am at 2 months.

All Lily wanted was to sleep and eat for the first month or two. She didn't get really interactive till 3 1/2 months. Then it suddenly registered with her that there is a person that feeds her, changes her, etc. I became a big hit. :)

This is where B is right now. It's fantastic.

  • DD is 10 weeks and she still does a lot of eating and sleeping, but she also is starting to play (as much as one can at 2 months), copy us, smile, "talk" and we do tummy time. She's also in my arms still, pretty much all day, which is hard with DS.
  • That sounds about right.  The girls didn't start being awake more than they slept until about 6 weeks-ish.  Now they wake up to eat around 5 or 6, sleep until about 10 AM, have combo awake/short nap times until 3,  spider-monkey freak out time (where they MUST be held or the ENTIRE WORLD WILL COLLAPSE FROM THE HORROR of not being held)  from 3 until about 8, then calmer times until they go to bed at 9:30 or 10.

  • DS didn't start 'chilling' until 5 or 6 weeks I think!

  • Yep, that was my LO's days for the first month. I'm sure everyone tells you to sleep when she sleeps. But do it if you can! I can't fall asleep for naps, so I was REALLY sleep deprived.

BTW, I love the name! That's my daughter's name too.  Big Smile
