I put her on my chest and she falls asleep... she's like a shark - flip them over and they're out cold. But for a normal child... I would agree with the car ride.
I hold her with her belly on my torso (either standing or sitting) bounce or sway or both, shush her and give her my pinky to pacify her if she'll take it. All last week she would not nap until she was overtired. It was exhausting!
Running the vacuum cleaner, sitting him on top of a running dryer with clothes in it (warm and vibrating), driving around.
Chucking the kid out the window is not a valid option, as tempting as it may be. When it gets to be too much, set him in his crib and step out of the room for a couple of (like exactly two) minutes, if he's already crying with you it doesnt change anything for him and gives you a chance to recharge before you go back.

Sometimes when DD is like that I just put her on her tummy in the crib with her bink and the seahorse and she falls right to sleep. I think she gets overstimulated and if I rock her or walk around with her it makes it worse.
Thanks ladies! I did the wine first!! Then set him down for a few... didn't work. My sister came over, rocked him for me for a little so I could have a break...
