The big thing is to make sure it is installed properly, so you want to make sure you have a chance at least a month before EDD to have it checked out. State patrol offices and fire depts usually have someone certified to check them out and BRU has once a month clinics. If you think it's going to be too rushed those last few months, go ahead and install it, have it inspected, and if you do need to take it out for any reason, you will already know how to properly install it. FWIW--installation is different in every car, so take the time to get yours and DH's inspected.
If the baby comes more than a few weeks early, baby will be in the NICU for awhile, so I don't think we will be installing ours until 34-35 weeks - maybe later, depending on when we find the time.

Installing a carseat is really simple once you understand how to do it. Most manufacturers have videos online that show you the right way.
Your husband could install it while you're at the hospital in about 5 minutes. Our police/firestation had no idea what I was talking about when I called to ask about an inspection with our first baby. However, the hospital did have a carseat "expert" who checked it before we could leave with the baby.
