Lightweight Stroller (for traveling)

We already have the BJ City Mini, but we will be flying in June to go on vacation with ILs when LO is about 6 months old and I'm not sure we'll want to take our big stroller plus the carseat, etc.  What lightweight strollers do you have that would be good for traveling?  I know this is early, but I'd like to get feel for what's out there so I can look for a deal!

Re: Lightweight Stroller (for traveling)

  • I have a couple umbrella strollers, and those are light weight. They are sort of uncomfortable to use though if you are over 5'5". I find I wind up hunching over and have a back ache afterwards. If you are bringing a car seat, what about one of these:https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3955967I don't own one, but I checked it out at the store before. It's light weight. Not as compact as an umbrella stroller, but not as bulky as a full size. This one seemed to roll easily too.

  • Are you looking for something that the car seat can snap into? Or just an umbrella stroller?

I recently bought the UppaBaby G-luxe, and I really like it. It's a bit pricey, but it's lightweight, and folds up really easily.  You can also get a travel bag for it and just gate check it if you are flying. Won't fit the car seat, though, so I don't know if that rec is helpful or not!

  • No, I want something in which LO can just sit in without the carseat.  We're going to San Diego and I'm sure there will be lots of walking and in and out of places so I'd like something compact and easy to travel with that doesn't require the carseat. I'm just worried about carrying all the stuff on the plane so I thought a lighter stroller would be better.  We already have the adapter for our city mini so I don't need something else for the carseat.  I guess I should have clarified...we're just bringing the carseat because we'll be renting a car most likely.

Hmm...OK...I guess that's another idea! I figured I'd wear the baby but I thought they would make us gate check the stroller and the carseat so I was worried about carrying everything up to the gate!

  • I traveled with the city mini and will again.  It JUST fits through the scanner and it's light.  I do ask for a plastic bag when I check in the carseat and put it in when I gate check it because it doesn't latch (I'm thinking of buying some velcro zip-ties to secure it so I don't have to bag it.)  I checked the carseat with the rest of the luggage.  It's actually worked really well because I can carry Q in a carrier, push the stroller with the carseat on it, and pull a rolling suitcase.  Then, once I have to take him off to go through security, I move him to the stroller.  Yes, I'm mommy sherpa.

we checked both(stroller & 2 carseats) in when we got there. it made it easier to get all 5 of us to the plane.

Haha...love this!  I've been telling DH that I'm a sherpa for the last month.  With him having been on crutches it seems like I carry everything!

Thanks for the input...I'm sure it will be a comedy of errors when we travel for the first time with all this stuff!

  • Yeah, we've traveled quite a bit now and about half has been me, alone, with Q...so, any questions, just ask.  (I'm also a "If I can't carry it myself, it's not coming" type of gal so I often end up with a lot even when DH is with me, because I grab and go)
