Hey, Ladies! I was just wondering if anybody had any recommendations or advice on whether it's safe to wear my newborn. If so, what is the best/safest way to wear a newborn? Thanks!
Ditto to everything Kwinters said. I also kept it as my own rule of thumb that I liked to feel DD breath against my collar bone (I liked having her really high up).
So if I made my own moby wrap with some fabric it would be totally safe for my newborn? I want to be able to take him out as soon as his pedi says it's safe but I don't want everybody grabbing at him so I though wearing him would be my best option at preventing that.
No outside baby yet, but I can tell you that I thought about making my own but it requires so much fabric that it was going to end up being cheaper to buy one used (there are tons on CL in my area) plus several friends offered to lend me theirs when they found out I was interested.
You definitely can make your own. You'll need 5 1/2 yrds of cotton jersey (usually $6-9 per yd) but since most cotton jersey comes in 60" wide bolts, you would be able to make 3 (because the moby is 20" wide)

i'd do either a moby or a sleepy for a newborn. Froggy legged, feet-in tummy to tummy position (my baby never liked cradle carry, and I think it's more dangerous anyway)
You can probably find a used moby way cheaper than making your own.
I was actually able to buy enough fabric for 2 wraps yesterday and only spent $27 total I'm excited to use them. I'm debating whether to hem the edges of the wraps or just leave them free. Any input?
Re: Wearing a newborn
There are several carriers that you can safely carry a newborn in.
I used a moby and a ring sling when Grace was a nb.
You always want baby to be high enough to easily kiss the top of their head. (high and tight will also make wearing more comfortable for you)
Tummy to tummy positions are better than cradle carry.
Always keep airway clear.
