Isn't it astounding that people think it's acceptable to push their birth decisions on you? I remember being at a wedding when I was 20 weeks last time and this girl I had never met cornered me for an hour going on about her water birth, how amazing it was, how much better it was, how epidurals automatically lead to c-sections and drug your baby....ahhh. It was SO brutal. I kept looking to DH for help, but he was obliviously enjoying his (second or third) cocktail.
I had a straight pitocin induced labor, got an epi at 5 cm's, delivered DS two hours later, and the whole thing was such a good experience that I got pregnant again by choice 9 months later. Come to think of it, maybe I should write that a girl a note with that on it.
Apparently this is something I'm passionate about since I rambled on for 2 paragraphs. I just think everyone should do what's best for them, and no one should judge each other's choices.
I had a coworker I just met (he works in another location) extolling me on the benefits of breastfeeding - how it was the best for the baby and it would help me lose weight (I've put on all of 4 pounds thus far) - at supper. That we were having at the hotel bar with 8 or 10 other coworkers.
On top of it all, he was a Close Talker and a touchy-feely person. I sacrificed another coworker to him just to get away.
Seriously? How random and inappropriate. It cracks me up how men - especially someone other than DH - thinks they have any place advising a women on giving birth. Too funny.
ETA: And when I say DH, I mean that while I wouldn't think it's weird for him to let me know what he thinks, it still doesn't mean that he really gets any say whether it's natural or not. Completely the mother's decision for what she wants/needs as far as I'm concerned.

When people tell me this my favorite response is to look them directly in the fact and say "I'm not tryin' to be a hero."
They either laugh or look horrified. Either way it's fun for me.
