We were talking about nutrition in our birthing class and they brought up pica. DH said that I've avoided all of the weird food cravings bc I've been eating healthy. He was referring to "pickles and ice cream" type cravings which has nothing to do with pica. It was really funny. But anyways, it got me thinking. Does your diet affect weird food cravings? When do most people start having the weird food cravings?
Re: DH's theory about food cravings
Same here. I have heard though that some cravings can be caused by a lack of certain nutrients in the body. I don't know the specifics but I hear that if a pregnant woman craves dirt or laundry detergent (which alone is cause for a side eye) may actually mean she's deprived of certain vitamins. Obviously not all pregnancy cravings mean malnutrition but you get the idea.
EDD 1/31/13, MC May 17. EDD 3/31/13, MC July 26. I miss you so much already my angel loves
I've heard that odd cravings are really just in your head, but then I've also heard that you crave what you need.
Obviously, nobody "needs" the nutrient-lacking food at fast-food restaurants, so those I'm sure are in people's heads (Some think you can eat whatever you want when you are preggo.)
I craved OJ and Tomato Sauce, so maybe I needed the nutrients in those things....but who knows?
This! While "guarding" our Christmas tree at the lot on Sunday, I had a sudden craving for chicken and I couldn't figure out why. Then as we went to pay, I noticed the KFC across the street lol. I seriously didn't even know that it was there! The smell was intoxicating! Its always some outside influence that makes me crave specifics.
My Blog: Naturally Mindful
Yes! and mmmmm KFC mashed potatoes, but to the point: you say it, I want it unless it falls into the aversion pile. Last week I was watching something on HULU, and they played an ad for that new baked Kraft mac & cheese in the bag during every break. Guess what my fiance was picking up on the way home?
Outside of suggestion, I have a nonstop, mouthwatering love for anything orange-flavored, from the fruit, to the juice, to little gummy candies. If I could roll around in the flavor orange and absorb it through my skin I would.
I don't have any strange cravings, so much as I'll go to make a sandwich and suddenly start craving a variety of everything in the kitchen. I'll end up with a half a sandwich, a handful of chips, a handful of crackers, a clementine, a bowl of apple sauce, and a granola bar. No strange combo's as of yet.

Some people don't get cravings at all. I didn't crave anything when I was PG with Drew and I haven't craved anything this time either.
I did have an aversion to chicken for the first 15 weeks or so with both. But no cravings.
I had a huge craving for three weeks of McChicken from McDonalds it was all I wanted. Lately though it's what ever I see on tv that makes me want it. Food network shows are not the best to watch with me. But I love the shows....
My mom had a weird pregnancy craving when she was pregnant with me and that was cardboard. She wanted cardboard, she had that one when she was around thirty weeks.
I just don't know why I am constantly craving chocolate cake?
No cravings here with either of my pregnancies.
One of my husband's cousins had. to. have. a. banana. every day when she was pregnant with her first. She said that when she skipped one day b/c they didn't have any bananas in the house, she woke up in the middle of the night with major leg cramps. So maybe her body really did need that potassium!
I haven't had any weird food cravings yet.
This...I'm eating orange tic tacs right now
Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
This is exactly how I am! Like I was watching The Backup Plan on Saturday and she was eating a chili dog and I immediately got stuck on chili dogs even though I normally don't like them. I don't have any "strange" cravings and I feel like a lot of that is in peoples heads because they think they're supposed to like weird stuff because they're pregnant.
