Sleep issue: I need suggestions

DS has started sleeping like crap.  Sometimes he'll go down without a fight around his bedtime, but he's started waking up multiple times/night and not going back to sleep.  Last night he woke up at 10 ate, and stayed awake until 12:30 (crying a lot of it), then woke up at 2, ate, and stayed awake until 4:30.  I totally wouldn't mind 2 wake-ups for nursing (he used to wake up just once, but 2 is doable), it's just the refusal to go back to sleep.  In the past after he ate I'd put him straight down, he'd talk a little, and then fall asleep.  Now he will SCREAM and won't stop even when I pick him up, rock him, offer him the boob again, whatever.  It's exhausting and I'm getting really frustrated.  I need ideas b/c this has been going on for a while and I don't know what to do.

Re: Sleep issue: I need suggestions

  • We just went through this. It lasted about 10 days and then one night he just went back to his old routine.  I know that is no help at all.  Hang in there mama!

I would climb in the bath with him when the screaming got real bad, it would calm him down and a lot of times he would go right to sleep when we got out.  It did mean some midnights bath, but it helped him to calm back down and pull it back together enough to sleep.

That's some dedication!!  And it's a brilliant idea.

OP how long has it been going on?  DS goes through weird sleep things like this and just when I'm about at my limit, he seems to get over it.  I honestly think they go through so much in terms of development around this time that it is no wonder their sleep gets wonky.  So I don't really have any advice but I just wanted to say that I've been there, on many occasions, and it usually does get better!

  • Hugs. I don't have any suggestions. Even though DS had a lot of sleep issues, we thankfully didn't go through that one. I can recommend the No Cry Sleep Solution, maybe there is a suggestion in there that would help.
