My dad and I don't have much of a relationship. It's hard to explain, but it's just better that way. For many years, I never got any gifts although I would send him and his new family a gift basket. Since Cadie was born, he's been making more of an effort to be in touch and we are actually meeting up over Christmas.
Well, I received their Christmas card today. It's a money or gift card shaped card (there was no place to place money or a card, just shaped like that), but there is no money or gift card inside. No big deal, I don't expect anything. But the envelope was ripped open.
Which got us thinking. They sent us a gift card shaped card last year that was opened. He gave both of my brothers gift cards for Christmas, but me and DH didn't get anything. I didn't push the issue of the opened card because I didn't want it to seem like I expected a gift if he never intended to give one, ya know?
But now I wonder if he is sending a card and someone is taking it out of the card. I just gave him a call letting him know I got it and that it was open, as was the one last year.
Re: Hmm.... peculiar.
That happened to me before as the sender - my BIL got his birthday card without the gift card in it. They knew something was up because I wrote "hope you enjoy shopping for some new tools" since it was for Home Depot.
That SUCKS though.
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
My favorite money saving tip: I've earned more than $300 in gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Southwest!) using SwagBucks for internet searching - and you can too! It's FREE and EASY!
Do you live in a complex or apartment building of some kind? Do you know where your father is sending it from?
We had a problem years ago with Netflix movies. DH started returning them via the mail in his company's building, and one day we got a message from Netflix saying they received the wrong disc. They sent it back to us and it was one of those free AOL cd's you get in the mail in the Netflix pouch. Weird, but we figured maybe we accidentally put in the wrong disc.
It ended up happening a few times after that before we figured it out. Turns out someone in DH's office building was stealing the movies and replacing them with AOL discs.

No, we live in a stand alone house. We have had issues with the mail here (saying things were delivered when they weren't, etc) but nothing like this. My dad lives in a stand alone house, too, but his wife has two teenagers that live there. I've only met them once so I do not know them at all. I just think it has to be his end since it's happened to his mail, ya know? If it was my end, I would think other mail would have been opened.
