If we have a girl I would really like to honor my mom. Her first name is Sandi/Sandra...we don't like this as a first name, and it really does not flow well as a middle name. I would like to use her middle name, Cecilia instead. My pick is Kendall Cecilia, but DH HATES Cecilia. I thought maybe we could name her "Lia" as a shortened version. He likes the name Lia, but as the traditional spelling, Leah. Help me! DH is so stubborn, does anyone else have a suggestion or a variation of either of these names to honor my mom with?
Re: Help with Cecilia
What about looking for names with similar meanings to Sandra or Cecelia?
I see the St Cecilia is the patron of musicians and music, so what about names like Lyric or Cadence? Cecilia means blind one, so maybe names like Lucille (the patron st of the blind)?
Sandra can be a nn of Alexandra. It also means "defender", so here's a list of names with similar meanings: https://www.20000-names.com/guardian_names_defender_names_female.htm
If DH won't budge, what about a compromise? If you choose the MN, he chooses the FN?
Me too. But I agree with pps - the MN will barely be used, so maybe point that out to your DH?
I am having the same issue. My grandmother passed just before our wedding. She was Cecilia Elizabeth. I have always wanted to honor my grandmother and I love that name, but DH just isnt into it. I suggested the following:
Same initials, Celia, Lia as a middle name, Using her middle name. We have decided to go with the same initials (Charlotte Elizabeth) HTH
"Even miracles take a little time"
