I usually head up to our Godiva store but I dont think thats going to help you any. JCPenney's usually has decent work clothes that I can actually afford since I have a rewards card, and Express is nice.

I'm a big fan of Banana Republic.  Gap is great for simple shirts like tees and such. 

I will pay a little bit more for quality, though.  

Express is cute - but their quality is super-shiity.  

JC Penney never has anything I like.  

I'm also a huge fan of The Limited.  

Asides from that, I make a beeline to (a) Williams-Sonoma, (b) Sephora and (c) Teavana.

We have a store called Styles that I really like, inexpensive clothing that doesn't fall apart when you wash it..(unlike Express). Then H&M, I love Macy's also, and I have great luck with buying jeans and such at Sears.

I just bought my holiday dress on sale at H&M.

I ALWAYS go to JCP first, though... not necessarily to shop, but Penney's always has an exit to the parking lot and every mall has a Penney's, so that way I never forget which side of the mall I parked on!

I don't know what stores are near you, but I would personally go for tweed pants, pencil skirts, sweater tights, 3/4 length thin sweaters. I am into "librarian chic"

I love J Crew and I'd say a good 50% if not more of my wardrobe is with them. I think this time of year is an excellent time to stock up with all the sales and deals stores are having with the holidays.

I LOVE the Gap and Limited.  If I'm looking for something to wear to a night out on the town, sometimes Forever 21 or Bebe.

I second the PP about Ann Taylor Loft. I have always had the best luck with versatile work-to-weekend stuff there.

Ann Taylor Loft is having a 40% off sale on the majority of their items online and also free shipping for orders of $125 or more.  I bought 2 sweaters, a t-shirt and a pair of jeans and before the discount my total was over $263.  After the discount it was down to below $150!  Happy shopping!
