Scarlett A.?

We're having a girl, and DH and I both really like the name Scarlett. Unfortunately, our LN starts with A, so if she ever needs to go by her FN and first initial of her last name (because she's one of two Scarletts in her class, etc), she'd be Scarlett A. Would you take the name off your list altogether because of that, or still consider using it?

I'd definitely still consider it. Beautiful name. Funny coincidence.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, you're concerned about the Scarlett Letter reference, right?

I wouldn't even worry about it. First off, chances are pretty low she'll have another Scarlett in her class. It's ranked #169 on the SSA list, and with the wide variety of  names people are using today, it's pretty unlikely she'll have to share her name.

Secondly, if that's the reference you're concerned about, it'll be a long time before it ever comes up. If The Scarlett Letter is part of the curriculum at all, her class won't even read it til high school.

Also, if it ever was at risk of being a problem (which I doubt), she could always go by Lettie.

And I've yet to met a Scarlett IRL, so I think you're safe from her needing to go by Scarlett A

Scarlett is a beautiful name! I agree with the other posts that she should be just fine in school.

I'd would bother me enough that I wouldn't use it myself, but I would probably only giggle if I heard it on a child as opposed to racing here to share the bad name/parent blunder.

I love this name. LOVE it. I'd gigle if I heard it probably, but I wouldn't think badly of the parents at all. Lovely name. I'd use it. Actually, you just gave me a great idea for a girl if we find out this one is a girl. Thanks!

Tough call, I think I'd be worried about Hester Prynne and adultery comments.  It wouldn't happen until she was a little older, but at that stage kids can be cruel

i def wouldn't worry about it.  and as you can see below in my siggy...i LOVE the name!  we have yet to hear of another scarlett as well and when we tell ppl her name everybody comments on the originality, so i don't think you have to worry about popularity.
