Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If your LO NEVER STTN...

If your LO never STTN how do you cope with it?  At this late in age, DS still doesn't STTN, he has occasionally slept 6-7 hours but he still continues to wake 1-3 (mostly 2) times a night.  I think my body is used to getting up frequently because I'm not tired and don't mind getting up - sometimes I automatically get up before DS does.  How do you guys deal with your LO not STTN?

  • Sabrina's STTN maybe a dozen times so far. We got like 4 nights in a row there when she started walking but now we're back to getting up at least once a night. I just deal. I'm ass tired all. the. time. but what can you do? For us, CIO isn't an option bc she goes right back to sleep after a bottle.

  • DD has only SSTN around 5 times ever.  Her schedule is now somewhat predictable.  She goes down around 7:00, wakes around 11:00 and around 2:00.  I go to bed pretty early, around 9:30.  DH takes the first waking, and i take the middle of the night one and nurse her.  If it's a really bad night, we'll just bring her to bed.

I used to LOVE my sleep.  This experience has made me realize that i can function on a lot less sleep than i thought.

  • I can count the number of time Isaiah has STTN on one hand. he also beshares with us. We love bedsharing but now he hates his crib and his room so because of his endless supply of boobies I dont know when he will ever STTN! We have gotten so used to it and it is routine now. But we are going on a trip in a couple weeks and he will be staying with my mom for 2 night so we will see how he does then!

  • Gigi has slept through the night all of 3 times.  She generally wakes up 2 times.  DH gets her and brings her into bed, and I nurse her.  If I don't fall asleep, I will take her back to her room.  At about 5:00am she spends the rest of the time in bed with me. Some nights are harder than others.  Most often she goes right back to sleep with a little bewbie.

  • My body just adjusted to it. As DS got older (like around 10 mo), we got down to just one night waking usually. In the past couple of weeks, he's started STTN the majority of the time, which has been great.

  • DD has STTN exactly once. She generally wakes up after 8-9 hours. I pull her into bed with me and she sleeps another 1 - 1.5 hours. Unfortunately the first 8-9 hours start at 6 - 6:30 so I only get a small part of this.

How do I survive? Caffeine. Hahaha... Seriously I don't know. I'm tired all the time but just keep going. CIO doesn't work for us.

  • Man, you guys are lucky! DD has not once slept through the night and she still wakes up every 2-3 hours ALL.NIGHT.LONG. I think I am just used to it now. I have my moments of breakdowns and I can be very emotional sometimes (As my bump history shows), but all in all, I guess I have just adapted.

  • DS will sleep from 7/7:30 - 3 or 4 or 5.  And then he is up again 2-3 hours later...sometimes for good, sometimes he will go back down.  I think that it is sometimes because he hears DH getting ready for work though.

The worst for me is actually him waking at 5...because by the time I nurse DS and get him back down, DH's alarm is going off and I'm up for the day.

I just deal with it though, I guess.  This too shall pass, right?  One of my friends just had a baby 2 weeks ago and I keep thinking (and being so thankful) that I'm not doing the every 2 hour thing right now.  I seriously do not know how I did that for months...I mean, it was a good 3 months after I was back at work before he would sleep a longer chunk.  Sleep is the #1 reason that we are waiting for #2, OMG.

  • Honestly - I really don't know how I am coping with it exactly.  You would never guess looking at me that I am up twice a night (some times 3 if gums are making him super fussy).  If I was still nursing it would be better -- but I EP... so I have to warm a bottle from the fridge before giving it to him and it's just such a PITA! My only consolation is that he goes right back to sleep after drinking his bottle. IDK -- is he really hungry or is it habit??? SIGH...

I am thinking of borrowing "no cry sleep solution" from the library and see what that's about.  I don't know what to do... I really need him to start sleeping but I'm afraid it's more out of habit now.  And I just can't CIO--- I CAN'T... :(

  • DH and I both WAH.  So I get to "sleep in" most days, and he gets up with her.  I do all the night feedings, so it's a good trade off.  I'm still pretty effin' tired all day though, because it's not consistent sleep, and I'm often woken up out of dreams.

All I want for Christmas is a full night's sleep!  :)
