DS started talking at 6 months (yes, I am serious). He gained tons of understanding but not much speech between 15 months and now. He has randomly started saying full words, not just attempts. He won't repeat them when encouraged but this weekend he said: Stretch (the name of our cat), book, please, and house. My ILs were over and assured us that we are not insane, he very clearly and in context said the two things they heard.
The other words he has have been things he tried until he got them right like Cla for clock. He would also say new words constantly. Now, however, he is just coming out with random words perfectly but not repeating them. Has this happened to anyone else?
Re: Speech development
Ari went through a serious repeat everything, new words every few hours phase just a few months ago. He still repeats a lot but is actually hanging on to the words now instead of repeating then not saying them again for awhile. In "What's Going On In There", she talks about that repeating everything & adding words very rapidly phase being the start of the language explosion.
That could be why he's having trouble sleeping btw. Remember how I shared that sleep specialist's comment that LOs process their new skills @ 4 a.m.? I think that's one of the reasons why Ari's sleep has been crappy lately too. His language skills have been rapidly developing for a few months now.
