Will you girls be taking DHA with it too or not? My Dr hasn't mentioned anything about DHA and I have forgotten to ask her if I should be taking DHA too.
What are you girls doing? What did your Drs recommend?
I'm actually looking for a new PNV with DHA or a sep DHA supplement. My dr said it didn't do anything before the 2nd tri, so I have just been taking the regular target pnv.
I started taking fish oil and prenatal vitamins when we were TTC. I opted for the fish oil on my own because of positive articles I have read on the subject. The 4 OBGYNs at the practice I go to also recommend taking the supplement, so I will continue taking it throughout the pregnancy.
My doc never mentioned DHA and when I told her I'm taking an extra DHA pill she was cool with it but she didn't make it sound like it was necessary. Just that I could if I wanted to. I think you are fine either way.

Just beware that not all fish oil pills have DHA. I thought they did but then when I checked mine (which I got from Target, I think) there was no DHA in them. I ended up getting my DHA from GNC. It is pretty inexpensive.

My doctor did recommend it, but I'm not really convinced how necessary it is. She kind of made it sound like it was up to me if I wanted to take it or not. I have some Spring Valley DHA pills that I will probably start taking. She also recommended that I take extra vitamin D, which I did start. I'm just not fond of taking 3 separate pills everyday, but oh well.

my Dr didn't actually mention it but all of the samples she offers in office contain DHA so I am guessing she is for it. I think when I switch to the Target ones I will continue with the DHA.
Does anybody know of any DHA pills that are small or easy to swallow? I have a hard time with pills (I take chewable prenatals- not the Vitafusion gummies though because I wanted ones with iron in them).

The GNC ones are not huge. Smaller than a PNV for sure. And they are s shiny slippery gel cap so they just sort of slide right down.

I take a separate supplement to the target pnv, my OB has been fine with it as something optional.
m/c#1 07/16/08 (11 weeks), m/c#2 10/10/08 (8 weeks).
and then nothing since except every test possible (no answers).

I take a separate supplement and started taking it before my 1st OB appt. My doc didn't say anything about it so I'm continuing to take it. I figure it can't hurt so I might as well. Plus, fish oil is good for you even if you aren't PG so its a bonus
Considering that with my two other babies I never took a DHA supplement and both are intelligent and ahead on development, I think it's just hype to get people to spend more money. Just my opinion. DHA in prenatals wasn't even a thought 2 years ago.
I take the Target PNV with the Target brand DHA pill. It's an easy-to-swallow, small gelcap. They come in 30 day packs. I've been taking it almost since my BFP, but maybe I didn't really need it until 2nd tri. I'm sure it didn't hurt though.

I've taken several brands of OTC PNVs and DHA (whatever store I happen to be in when I need more). The DHA from CVS are the smallest.
I forgot to ask at my appointment. I have a few left before I have to buy a new bottle, I think I will just get one with DHA to be safe. All the prenatal samples they gave me had DHA in them.
Mine just said to pick up an OTC PNV, didn't mention a thing about DHA. I think I'll ask at the next appt. The PNV's I took with DS were prescribed ones and I don't think they had DHA in them.
I don't take Target brand PNV (I use Rainbow Light), but when I discussed DHA with my doctor, he suggested I take plant-based DHA, and not fish oil or fish based. I had brought in my GNC DHA bottle to the appt, and he didnt want me taking it. He was concerned about mercury. The bottles don't stipulate the amount of mercury. He suggested Expecta, which is OTC and available at Target.
My dr also mentioned making sure to take a plant based DHA supplement as regular old fish oil could have too much Mercury. I took Expecta with my first preganancy in 2008 and am now taking the Target PNV/DHA combo.
