Lop-sided bump?

So when I lay down, I can tell that the left lower (just above pubic bone for a couple of inches) side is definitely elevated higher than the parallel right side.  I don't have any fibroids or anything that I'm aware of.  Has anyone noticed anything like this?  I wonder if baby is just hanging out on L side and I can see that?  I tried poking bump to see if it would move or shift haha, i know how stupid this sounds.  Just curious, lol.

Re: Lop-sided bump?

  • My bump has been very lop-sided lately.  Especially when I lay down I can see and feel it.  For a while it was on the left almost all the time and now it's been more on the right, left, high by my belly button and everywhere lol.  I think it just gets settled it a spot and sits there depending on what you're doing.  Sometimes I notice it settles according to if I've been laying on my left side for a while or which ever side.  The other night I laid down and I actually had no bump at all.  I thought it was weird, but tried not to worry.  But I kept thinking about it and finally ended up poking and moving my tummy and after that I actually felt it rise up and within about 30 seconds I had a big bump again.  It was a weird feeling.  I'm betting you are feeling baby too, but if you feel that it's something else then ask your doctor.

  • I have this too, I asked the doctor and it turns out that I have a cyst on my right ovary that is assisting in the development of the placenta and it will go away when the placenta is fully formed.

  • That is so funny. I literally JUST called my sister to ask her about this. I was doing the doppler this morning and noticed my right side is higher than my left. I called DH over and he noticed it too. After I got my bicornuate uterus scare it really made me start to freak out. My sister told me your bump will never be perfectly round. It all depends on where they are sitting and later, where their head and butt is I guess.

  • At 15/16 weeks with my DS, I could already see when he was favoring a particular side, it's just a lot smaller at that point than it will be later on! Unless you are feeling pain or something feels "off," I wouldn't worry. Just casually mention it at your next Dr. appointment. =)

  • It's definitely possible for your bump to look lopsided from time to time, especially later when baby is more visible.  Also, it could be that one of your ligaments is shorter than the other, pulling your bump to one side.  My old OB warned me this might happen because I have one shorter than the other.

  • I was wondering this while in bed this morning!!  My left side is definitely higher than my right.  I am glad I am not the only one.

  • Too funny, I just noticed this yesterday and poked my belly a little too, to see if it'd move. I knew it was normal but I was a little shocked you could see the imbalance so early. :)
