Baby Names

WDYT?

If we have a girl DH and I would really like to honor our grandmothers (we both only have 1) who have played a vital role in our lives.

DH's grandma's name is Grace, which I love but not for a first name, mainly because its too popular lately.

My grandma's name causes the problem; it's Erma.  She has said many times how she does not like it.  I came up with the idea of finding another E name, I didn't realize there aren't that many.  So far I like Elaina.  DH is not crazy about it but said he would be ok if we could call her Ellie for short--which I can accept.

So what do you think of Elaina Grace?

Re: WDYT?

  • My grandma middle name is May.  mmmh not crazy about it.

I like Elisa--but unfortunately it's an ex's sister's name so it is forever marred for me.

Too many friends and playmates name Elizabeth and Emily growing up so I have kind of nixed those names and ones closely related to them.

Emma/Eve/Eva are way too popular lately too.   I am picky I know.

  • Actually, I wouldn't call Grace popular. It was #17 in 2009 and who knows how popular or unpopular it was in your area. My daughter's name was something like #22 the year she was born and honestly I have never run into a child named Anna under the age... well, not at all to be truthful. I would move Grace to your first name.

Next, I don't see how any random E name would honor your husband's grandmother. Does she have a middle name? If not, why not just go with Erma? Your daughter would never have to really use it and it's way more special to use Erma than a random E-name.

Grace Erma or Graciela Erma or something along those lines makes a whole lot more sense IMO.

  • I like Eleanor...maybe with the nickname Nora.  DH would never go for it though as he does not like "old lady names."  I tend to like them but then again I am a history teacher.
