Re: freezing bm question?

  • No more than 6oz. For convenience, you may want to do 4oz (one bottle). They take up less space if you lay them down.

  • I usually put between 2-3 ounces in each bag. J is only eating about 3-4 ounces each feeding so if she is still hungry after 3 oz then I heat up a 2 oz. I stand mine up also.

    4 hours

It's good for 24hours after thawing if it is kept in the fridge.  OK for 4hrs out of the fridge.  These are the rules we go by in both NICUs I work in (I'm an RN).

  • I have a large variety of sizes frozen. 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, and 4. She eats 3 oz at a time now. At your baby's age, she was eating 2 so I was freezing that amount. I guess I make the variety bc I can always put 2 sizes for 2 bottles (like now I'll grab a 4 and 2 when I'm away).

Our hospital says the same. I put no more than 6 oz in each bag cause thats what the bag recommend if you are freezing. I lay mine down cause they take up less space that way.
