Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Am I the only one?...

....who's 8 week old doesn't STTN? What am I doing wrong? She has reflux and gets cranky from 7-10 usually because she's tired, so about 7 I will change her and feed her and usually put her down between 8-830. If we are lucky she sleeps til 1230-1. But after that, it's every 2-3 she's she is up til about 7 when we get up for good. It's awful...I'm exhausted. I can't wait til 10 to put her down because she is too tired and will fall asleep before that and not wake up to eat. She also eats so inconsistently...last night she ate 2oz before bed, the 5.5 at 1 am, then about 3 at 4 am and 2 at 7am. This is driving me nuts because I'm never sure how much she will want.

Re: Am I the only one?...

  • DS just started sleeping through the night 3 days ago, and he'll be 4 months on the 25th. Let it be known that I think it's a fluke. You're not doing anything wrong, you're probably doing everything perfect but your DD just isn't ready yet. She sounds like a normal 8 week old to me. :) It'll all even out eventually, GL!

  • every baby is different...there is no rhyme or reason to when babies STTN.  Keep in mind, there are many different views on what constitutes STTN. Olivia was STTN at 7 weeks old (bed at 7, wake at 6).  Abigail is now almost 9 weeks and sleeps for one 6 hour stretch.  It is what it is.  Don't worry, you're doing nothing wrong.
  • My DD will be 8 weeks tomorrow and is up every 2-3 hrs during the night. I totally feel for ya and would love for her to sleep a lot longer.

  • You're not doing anything wrong!  All babies are different but I know it's exhausting.  Here's what a friend told me and what I've tried to do from day 1.  For that "last" feeding, before it's bedtime, we turn off all the lights, turn the tv down really low and just make it quiet and dark to let him know it's bedtime.  Also, we do bath right before that "last" feeding, just to cue him as well...so just to make a bedtime routine, seems to have worked for us.  But besides that, I have no idea what the secret is:)
  • We aren't sleeping through the night either. Ty also has reflux and we are still adjusting medicine. Also, he doesn't want to go to be till about 12 and gets up every 2-2.5 hours to eat. I'm beyond exhausted!
  • Mine doesn't STTN either. I asked her pedi how to get her to STTN and she said it truly comes down to the baby and she will do it when she is ready. She did say that if you don't talk a lot to her/ allow play time that can help cause mine wants to be a party animal for at least 2 hours every night
