Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Introducing whole milk?

DS is 8.5 months old and EBFs. My supply has been gradually dropping over the last month. When I pump now at work, I'm lucky to get 2.5 ounces. I have enough of a stash to take me to around 10 months old. I'm wondering, is that too young to introduce whole milk? When did you start introducing it? I know someone that introduced whole milk at 7 months because they didn't want to do formula - but I think that is a little young. I have a pedi appt in a couple weeks and can ask him them, but I wanted to get all of your thoughts as well. TIA!

Re: Introducing whole milk?

  • I really don't know the answer, but just wanted to mention that my Dr. said that giving DD a little whole milk - a splash in her sippy cup - is fine. Just not all the time. She told me that when we use a sippy cup, to make sure it's not always water. I mentioned that I didn't normally have a ton of pumped milk and she said it was okay to use whole milk. Good luck!

  • I asked our pedi this question since ds never took to a bottle and never liked formula. He said he really wants me to wait till the 1 year but if I want at 10 months I can give him an oz every day to get him use to it

  • I started introducing whole milk at about 9.5 months for taste.   Around 10 months or so I started offering it at meal times instead of water.   I'm still nursing morning and night but hope to be done soon.

I posted on the same topic a while back.   I received some helpful responses, especially the one that Canadian pediatricians recommend milk from 9 months.   GL
