Napping in car

If your LO just falls asleep right before you get home, have you ever just left them in their carseat in the car in your garage? A friend said they've done it, but it just doesn't sit right with me.

Re: Napping in car

  • Uh... no.  Wouldn't even occur to me to do that.

  • I'm way too nervous to do that! If she falls asleep, I don't even feel right bringing in the groceries before I get her out. ..I guess it depends on your neighborhood, but also. . . wouldn't a LO get scared if they woke up alone in a car?

  • I wouldn't want him to wake up alone in the car. 9/10 times I can transfer him without him waking up.
  • i always make sure i have a book and sit in the car and read... then again m's new thing is one nap a day 10 minutes or 4 hours we only get ONE!

  • One time I sat in the car for a half hour in the garage reading a magazine that I had just gotten in the mail so that DS could sleep.  Usually, he transfers to his crib without a problem though.

ETA: I'd never leave him alone in the car though!

  • I wouldn't leave DD in the car either. I have also sat in the car and waited a times because she won't transfer to her crib and stay down. I was just wondering what everyone else thought.

  • I have done that with the doors open. It has happened a few times, so I usually leave car door and garage door open. Id go in to do dishes (kitc right next to garage) or just hang out in our sunroom between kitchen and garage. Nothing wrong with that unless its mid summer and super hot or mid winter and super cold.

  • I haven't done it, since we just moved to a house with a garage, but I can see going in to grab a book or something and just waiting in the car with her. DD transfers pretty easily though.

  • I always transfer him.  But I live in Florida and its hot all the time and I don't have a garage that I can park in.  This post makes me laugh a little because it reminds me of a 2 month span where DS ONLY napped in the car and I would take 1-2 long car rides around each day because it was the only way he would sleep.  I got to know my city really well in that time but it was miserable.  LOL

  • If DS falls asleep within 15 mins from home I can move him to his bed with not problem  & he will sleep for "normal" nap time. If it's any longer then that then I will let him sleep in the car and I will just kill time reading the mail or playing on my phone. If I have stuff that needs to be put away (aka frozen/cold food) I will put that away quickly and get back to the car. We live in a very safe area so I feel ok doing that.
