Hello! I'm wondering if there are any other Moms to be out there that have Crohn's Disease. I am on a number of medications for my Crohn's and my doctor said that I would be having a high risk pregnancy because of this.
I just wanted to connect with others in the same boat as me and see if they were interested in sharing experiences throughout pregnancy.
Hope you have a healthy pregnancy and baby!!!
Re: Any Moms to Be with Crohn's Disease?
I'm lurking from another board and although I don't have Crohn's my husband does and we attend some of the local meetings. There have been a few women who attended these meetings that said when they were pregnant most if not all of their symptoms went away. I know not everyone is so fortunate, but there is hope out there that you will have a wonderful, pain free pregnancy. What meds are you on? My husband is on methylpred, remicade and lylda (?). We were concerned about the side effects these meds would have on his ability to conceive, but his s/a came back normal so we are crossing our fingers we will not have many issues. If you are on pred at all and concerned about the effect on the fetus, I can tell you a very dear friend of mine has severe respirator problems and was on anywhere from 32-60 mg of methylpred throughout her entire pregnancy and she has a VERY healthy 1.5 yr old with no problems.
Thanks for the messages!
It's great to hear that pregnancy might actually give me some relief in my symptoms! I'm on Cimzia (similar to Remicade), Azathioprine, Sulfasalazine, and Colestipol. (awesome drug for diarrhea) I was also concerned about our ability to conceive, but I got pregnant the first month that we tried! I haven't been on pred for a few years, but that is good to know. It makes me pretty nervous being on all these meds. Good luck TTC!!!!!
kissingthetip - Thanks for sharing! That is great to know! I'm glad that everything went okay for you!
I'm glad that things are going good for you overall!!! If you don't mind me asking, what issues have you had so far? Are they related to your Crohn's? I've read that some women can have bad flareups after giving birth. Did you have any issues like that after your first? I hope this pregancy continues to go well for you and baby!!!
Hi! Wow, I think that's awesome that you've had such a good experience during and post pregnancy! I also think it's very interesting that you were actually diagnosed with Crohn's after having your first child. I haven't talked with many others with Crohn's, so I forget that you can be diagnosed at different times. I've had this since I was 17, but was formally diagnosed 7 and a half years later. Good luck to you when you stop bfing!!! I know it doesn't help stop a flare, but if you have Crohn's with bad D, colestipol is a savior for keeping you regular. I know it's an odd thing to bring up with a stranger, but it literally changed my life. haha.
