Anyone have a Keurig Coffee Maker?

H would like one for Christmas, but are they worth the money especially taking into account having to buy the K-Cups?  I don't drink coffee, he does very rarely, but says he would drink that over energy drinks if he had one.  Would it be just as beneficial to get a cheap coffee pot?

Re: Anyone have a Keurig Coffee Maker?

  • I have one and I love it.  However, my husband doesn't drink coffee and I usually only have one cup a day.  The cups are about 50 cents each, so if you drink several cups a day, it may not be worth it.

  • if he rarely drinks coffee, I would skip it.  I would love to have one, but I only drink coffee at home a few times a year (plenty away from home or at work).

Unless he's a real connoisseur, get him some Starbucks Via and call it a day.

  • you can buy a My K-Cup ... it's a reusable K-Cup that you can put your own coffee in.  I think that would make it worth it.  You can buy a Keurig and a My K-Cup together on Amazon.
  • We have one.  DH is he only person in this house who drinks coffee.  You can get the K cups at Bed Bath and Beyond and use the 20% off coupons.

  • I love mine and its not just for coffee, they sell hot chocolate, cider and tea too in the K cups. If you get the Kcup that lets you put your own coffee in they its way cheaper. I use a website called coffeewiz.com and they are cheaper than buying at bed/bath/beyond.
  • I have seen a mini Keurig for $70, maybe you could get him that one? DH wanted one for Christmas (the regular size machine) but I didn't buy it because his temporary lay off was extended. I hope I can get it for him for V-day though :)

  • i bought one at BBB using my 20% coupon, and i'm so glad i did. i'm the only one who drinks coffee in my house, and i only get to drink it on the weekends. it was such a pain for me to use the coffee pot to make just one cup for myself. the keurig is super easy, and i buy coffee from amazon.

  • The reuseable K-Cup does not work.  I got my sister a Keuring and the reuseable filter and she can't use it at all.  If you have a BJs near you, you can buy a box of 80 cups for $33 ($0.41/cup).  They also have tea and hot chocolate.

This is our situation, pretty much.

If you're serious coffee drinkers, it makes more sense to get a coffee pot and make good coffee.  I'm a pretty regular coffee drinker, maybe two cups a day.   Sometimes three.  But I space them out throughout the day.  So, I'd have a cup in the morning and then end up with stale coffee throughout the day.  Also, when DD was little and I was nursing, I let myself have one cup of regular and then I'd do decaf the rest of the day.  So, I'd have to make one pot of regular.  Then another of decaf.  Once in a while, DH will have a cup but usually decaf.   So, for us, being able to make a single cup at a time was a big convenience.

I've often thought that a french press would work similarly - one cup at a time.  But those are such a hassle to clean.
