Babies: 3 - 6 Months

When you have your next baby...

Not that I'm even close to being ready to have another LO, but DH and I have been discussing the whole finding out the sex of the baby issue. I reallllly wanted a girl because I grew up with 3 brothers (and I got her), I don't care one way or another if the next baby is a boy or girl. I want the next one to be a surprise but my DH thinks we should find out so we can "prepare" (he is super type A). I told him he can prepare all he wants but that I dont want to know. I just think there are so few surprises in life and what better of a surprise.

Do you want to know the sex of your next baby or keep it a surprise?

Re: When you have your next baby...

  • I want to know. I definitely like to prepare and I felt such a strong bond with DS before he was even born, because I knew he was my son, his name, etc. I can't imagine not knowing.

  • We will find out for our next one. If we wind up having a boy, that will put us at one boy and one girl. I would like to keep it a surprise when we have our third because I have both boy/girl clothes (everything else is gender neutral). Does that make sense?

  • I would love for it to be a surprise but I doubt I could really hold out.

  • We didn't find out for our first and won't for our second.  It's such a fun surprise!  Plus, I got all gender neutral stuff for this EXACT reason.

    Me too!

  • I'm a type A as well but lately, I've been thinking of letting it be a surprise. Who knows, I'll probably end up wanting to find out because I can't wait on things but I think I'd like to try. I figure we have all the baby stuff anyway, grab a few neutral color things (we already have all the boy clothes) and if it's a girl, get girl clothes later. That's the only reason I'd want to find out is to prepare with girl clothes if needed but it's not a big deal to go out and get them.
  • This, well, except that we did find out with #1! AND I don't think you have to know the gender to form a strong bond with the baby before it's born.

  • We'll definitely be finding out! I just can't imagine not knowing. I HAVE TO KNOW. ;)
  • We found out with B, but I would really like for #2 to be a surprise.  We'll see if I can hold out!

  • We found out for this one and we will find out for any in the future. It honestly never occurred to us to not find out.

  • We found out with DD, but for the next baby we want to be surprised.  We'll see how long that lasts though!

  • I did not find out for my first, and won't find out for my second.  I love the excitement of not knowing.  I also didn't want to find out so we could get gender neutral items and use them for our second child regardless of their sex.  I had no problem forming an amazing bond with my baby, even though I didn't know the sex.  Oh, and that moment after my baby was born, when they said "It's a boy!" is honestly one of the most treasured, amazing moments I have ever had in my life.  Looking in my husband's teary eyes and saying "We have a SON!"  ahh, it still gives me chills :)

  • DH won the debate with our first - we found out, even though I really wanted it to be a surprise. So for #2 I have already told him we're going to wait. I can't think of a more exciting surprise on D-Day!
  • We found out with Liam, and will definitely find out with our next baby. I have a need to be prepared and organized. Plus we're really hoping for a girl next time around, and designing/decorating a little girl's nursery while pregnant is something I really look forward too.

I would feel the same way if I had a girl first, preparing for a boy would be so much fun! I would want to know.

  • We didnt find out with Olivia and it was totally worth the wait. We had a boy and girl name picked out and just called her baby while she was in the womb. All the staff that took care of us at the hospital were so excited to find out what she was. They said no one ever did that anymore. Even our Dr didnt know. I ended up with a c-section so in operating room my dr asked DH if he wanted to announce it or if the dr would tell us both. So when they pulled her out and she started crying, DH said, "It's Olivia!" and we both started crying. Then he called our family from the OR and had them put it on speakerphone and told them "It's Olivia" It was such a special amazing moment for us all. We totally want to not find out with the next one too.
  • I wanted to wait with DD but everyone pressured me and finally I gave in and I kind of regret it. I want it to be a suprise this time but since everyone gave me pink items if it is a girl I am set, if not I have some shopping to do.
